There are a few organisations specialising in academic exchange programs but these usually cost the parents an arm and a leg since the parents have to cover the cost of the flight, spending money in the host country (with the South African Rand being weaker than most currencies, this is really expensive for the parents), passport costs, visa costs, etc, etc. Some of these organisations offer a partial scholarship and very few offer full scholarships and then only to a few students per year.

With CDC, children from the poorest backgrounds who have good enough grades at school, will be able to participate in an academic exchange.
